Wake Up Your Voice

The basic exercises to use as you would use your body to stretch in the morning, walk, and do yoga, are seen and heard. How to stand, how to sit, how to use abdominal-diaphragmatic-INTERCOSTAL breathing and why to smile are demonstrated. The basis of staying alive is a rhythmic heartbeat. So too, involving more than the vocal cords and the brain keeps your voice alive. Each speaker offers a different body build so you can select which speaker you identify with most. By using more than your voice only, you can recall these exercises when you want to have a vibrant sound in your voice. Most meet you first over the phone so give that lasting impression even when you are tired.

Keep Your Voice Going

Remember the old adages, “a picture is worth 1,000 words”  and “whistle as you work.”  Let’s turn these into viewing Sara’s illustrations and cartoons and actors/singers will imprint in your brain how to strengthen the voice.  No, it is not whistling that helps the voice.   It is singing whenever so why not learn to do it well so the voice gets a real workout by LENGTHENING THE VOWELS. There will be days when your body is tired, your nose is runny, or you don’t want to face the day. Just learn these images and “Simon says” them with “Keep Your Voice Going” and the voice will respond to your command. Sara has spent 30 years as a licensed speech-language pathologist, has sung professionally using a coloratura style, a church style, an easy listening style, &  a jazz style. You can find recent samples on www.youtube.com under “Voice.Gym1” and “Sara Ann Butler”.   Remember that without exercising the cartilage of the larynx and the respiratory area,  the lung capacity of an 80 year old person is HALF of that of a 20 year old.
